Dr. Armen Yuri Gasparyan is a graduate of Yerevan State Medical University (MD diploma with honors, 1997) and Clinical Residency (MSc in cardiology, YSMU; 1997-2000). He was employed as a Clinical Research Fellow at the YSMU (2000-2003). For studies on cardiovascular involvement in familial Mediterranean fever, he was awarded a PhD degree (2002). In 1998-2003, he was a member of the World Bank Primary Health Care WG, where he developed and implemented evidence-based clinical guidelines for general practitioners. Since 2003 – trainer of English-speaking medical students as an assistant and then associate professor, postdoctoral research fellow (YSMU,

Republic Center for Familial Mediterranean Fever, Armenia). In 2004-2006, he was a consultant (lieutenant of medical service) at the Unit of Internal Medicine, Central Clinical Military Hospital, Yerevan, Armenia. In 2002 and 2008, he passed internships in internal medicine at the Barherzigen Bruder General Hospital, Graz, Austria. He was awarded a degree of Associate Professor of Medicine (2006) and was recognized as a Fellow of European Society of Cardiology (FESC, 2010).

Since 2007 – Postdoctoral Fellow in Cardiovascular Medicine, Thrombosis and Hemostasis at the Haemostasis,Thrombosis and Vascular Biology Unit, University Department of Medicine, City Hospitals NHS Trust, Birmingham, UK, and Dudley Group NHS Trust, University of Birmingham, UK. Activities as a clinician, medical educator, researcher, and reviewer (The Lancet, Thrombosis and Haemostasis, J Human Hypertension, Rheumatology, Seminars in Arthritis and Rheumatism, Current Pharmaceutical Design), member of the editorial boards (Atherosclerosis, Thrombosis Research, Vascular Health and Risk Management, Rheumatology International, Current Vascular Pharmacology,

World J Cardiology) were highly evaluated, which yielded membership of the World Association of Medical Editors (since 2008) and the European Association of Science Editors (since 2009; council member since 2011). He is chief editor of European Science Editing and deputy editor-in-chief of Inflammation and Allergy – Drug Targets. He published more than 100 research articles, 3 textbooks on internal medicine; organized a series of international seminars on biomedical writing and editing in the UK, Turkey and Iran. Main academic and scientific interests relate to platelet function, aspirin and clopidogrel resistance, atherosclerosis, thrombosis, heart failure, rheumatic diseases, and inflammation.
